Captain America, Super-Soldier

Legendary Creature — Human Soldier Hero

What the Card Says

First strike Captain America enters with a shield counter on him. (If he would be dealt damage or destroyed, remove a shield counter from him instead.) As long as Captain America has a shield counter on him, you and other Heroes you control have hexproof.

What Does That Mean

This is a 3/2 creature that costs three mana and hits first in combat.

It enters the battlefield with a shield counter that absorbs one instance of damage or destruction (the counter is removed instead).

As long as the shield counter is on Captain America, you and all other Heroes you control gain hexproof, making them immune to being targeted by spells or abilities.

Why Is That Important

Captain America is a strong early-game defensive engine in Hero-focused decks, particularly in white or Azorius (white-blue) strategies.

The hexproof effect protects your entire Hero team from targeted removal and disruption, which is especially valuable if you're building around synergies with other Heroes.

The shield counter provides built-in protection for Captain America himself, and the first strike makes him a reasonable attacker that can trade favorably.

This card rewards you for playing a Hero-heavy strategy while providing multiple layers of protection.
